Patient Testimonials

Dr. Kunwar is No. ONE and the BEST surgeon. My mother had a back surgery with him, and his surgery not only was very successful but it was a miracle. He has a very kind professional attitude, and he treated my mother just like she was his own mother. When he saw my mom pain free and walks I saw tears in his eyes. I can not find a word to appreciate Dr. Kunwar and his wonderful , caring staffs. His bed side manner is the best. My mom's back was so sever that no other surgeon was able to conduct such delicate, successful surgery. For the rest our lives we appreciate him and he is in our daily pray. We were very fortunate to find him. Dr. Kunwar has devoted all his life to his patients. Bless him and his family.

I first saw Dr. Kunwar in November 2009 with my CT scan. I came in with low back pain, numbness in the toes and leg pain. The CT was not clear enough to make a determination and he sent me in for a lumbar MRI in January of 2010. A few days later I received a call from Angel that Dr. Kunwar wanted to see me as soon as possible. Once I went in and talked to him is where I am convinced that his attention to detail saved my life. We were discussing the surgery (fusion with X-LIF at the L2/3 level). Out of the corner of his eye his saw me make an involuntary movement I didn't know I had made. He asked me when the last time I had a cervical MRI done and the answer was never because I had no pain in the neck or symptoms. He told me to humor him and back to the MRI scanner I went this time for my cervical spine. Because of his attentiveness the MRI showed 2 herniated disks and a bulging disk in my neck. Had he or any other surgeon done the lumbar surgery I would have either died or been paralyzed during positioning. The 2 disks were resting directly on the spinal cord. Even a minor fender bender or fall would have been catastrophic. He told me this was a silent killer and not usually found until after the fact. It was a total miracle that he saw that one movement and ordered the further tests. He did the fusion on the C4/5/6 levels with titanium plates. Once that had recovered enough 4 months later we did the surgery I originally came in for and am now working on recovering from that. I don't know how to thank him enough for saving my life but I am grateful to Dr. Kunwar and his staff for taking such good care of me.

Thank you again,
L.M.

In 2008 I had been experiencing pain in my shoulder blade which I didn’t think was really a problem. The pain eventually turned to tingling down my arm to my fingers. I wasn’t too concerned, until working out at the gym one day I noticed my right arm was much weaker than my left arm. I went to my general practitioner who ordered an MRI. I delayed bringing the CD with the MRI results to him for 2 weeks. I finally dropped it off at my doctor’s office, who promptly called me the next day. He told me I needed to see Dr. Kunwar right away. Two days later on a Friday I met with Dr. Kunwar and was in surgery the next Monday.

I was thoroughly impressed with Dr. Kunwar’s facility located at Washington West in Fremont. He saw me, along with my husband right away. He showed us the copy of the MRI and carefully explained the surgery I needed. It was all a little overwhelming and confusing for us, but he did a great job explaining the MRI and using spine prop to show what was needed and why. I had a wedding I was planning on attending the next weekend, but the staff made it very clear that my surgery was priority.

I made it through surgery with flying colors, surprised at how fast my recovery was. I feel so blessed to have such an outstanding neurosurgeon available so close to my home and able to do this necessary procedure so quickly. Dr. Kunwar’s staff made me feel so comfortable with the situation I was in. The facility at Washington Hospital could not have been better as well. As a matter of fact, I did make it to the wedding 6 days later. Don’t get mad at me Doc, I took it very easy and went home early from the reception. I was thrilled that I felt well enough to attend it. If anyone I know needs a neurosurgeon, Dr. Kunwar is the person I would highly recommend.

Sincerely,
C. P.

Condition: Spondylolisthesis

I met Dr. Kunwar in 2008. He did a procedure on my back called XLIF. Since the day I met with him he was very professional and compassionate about my severe back pain caused by degenerative disk disease and severe arthritis. His office staff was very cordial and helpful through my whole experience, even well after the surgery was completed. I never would have thought that the pain I felt in my back could be cured until I met Dr. Kunwar. The pain in my lower back made my life almost unbearable, not being able to bend over, lift anything heavy, and especially not being able to pick up my granddaughter. I hated having to live with that miserable pain. But, since Dr. Kunwar’s help, I’m able to live a normal, pain free life. He is a wonderful Doctor and his office staff and the nurses at Washington Hospital are top notch.

Sincerely,

J.H.,Ca.

Condition: Pituitary Cyst

It has been 3 months since Dr. Kunwar dealt with a large and complex cyst on my pituitary , which was severally impairing my vision-I had 2 previous operations by another neurosurgeon both were unsuccessful, the cyst came right back. So I consider myself extremely fortunate to have met Dr. Kunwar and to have benefited from his surgical skill, I also appreciate his great human qualities, his obvious concern for his patients, his willingness to answer all questions,
Dr. Kunwar office staff at Washington Hospital (Fremont) is very efficient and supportive. As for the hospital itself, I have nothing but praise.

Condition: Degenerative Disc Disease

Those reading this testimonial need to understand a few facts about myself.
I am 72 years of age and have had three prior surgeries: both hips replaced and back (L4/L5) cleanup. The current surgery was to fuse L4/L5.

I as a patient require the very best in a doctor and am pleased to having both in my primary care physician (Dr. Nicholson) and surgeon (Dr. Kunwar).

Dr. Kunwar has provided me with the very best of care beginning with the evaluation phase, at which time he provided through analysis and evaluation of the data along with the type, direction and consultation for this surgery. The consultation with my wife present provided us wit the alternative, the risks and detailed views of the problem, the procedure, and follow up issues. Such as the sore muscles and need for following his very detailed advice. In addition, he kept my primary care physician informed and provided him with a post operation review.

His post surgery concern and direct support has been outstanding and greatly appreciated. My recovery is well on its way with no pain and muscle strength returning with exercise.

Sincerely,
R.F., CA

Condition: Brain Tumor

When I was diagnosed with a frontal lobe meningioma after a car accident, I was devastated. I was referred to Dr. Kunwar by my general physician. I had one consultation with Dr. Kunwar in which he was extremely patient and detailed in explaining the diagnosis and what my options were. He answered all my questions thoroughly. He gained my confidence, and I made the decision to schedule my surgery that day. The surgery was scheduled for November 17, 2008. We decided on the supra-orbital procedure. The post-operative period was very easy. I had little to no pain. Dr. Kunwar was very attentive post-operatively. No one can see my incision or can tell that I have had brain surgery. It is amazing. I had spinal surgery and knee replacement surgery several years prior to the brain surgery by other doctors, and the brain surgery was by far the easiest. The recovery period was the most rapid. I attribute this to the intelligence, knowledge, skill and artistry of Dr. Kunwar—a most elite neuro-surgeon. I am currently back at work full time and feel well.

Condition: Degenerative Scloliosis

I am deeply grateful to the staff of Washington Hospital for the wonderful care I received here. Not only is my surgeon, Dr. Kunwar the very best, so were my nurses!

Condition: Degenerative Scloliosis

I have been having pain in my back and legs over the years. Early in 2009, the pain increased and I had two Epidural blocks.

Even after the two Epidural Blocks, the pain increased. I was in excruciating pain all year.. I was in pain walking, standing, sitting and even in bed. I heard good and bad stories about back surgery and had trouble making up my mind about having the surgery until the pain got so bad, that the pain pills were no longer helping. My family doctor referred me to see Dr. Kunwar. I saw him late in the year 2009. He showed me the X rays and explained why I was having so many painful problems with my back. I liked the compassionate way he explained all my back problems and the ramification of surgery. I did not have to think very long before I decided to have the surgery.

I had the surgery on January 4,2010. I left the hospital 3 days after followed by physical therapy for two weeks. I have not had any back pain since I left the hospital.

When anyone mentions to me that they are having back pain, I have highly recommended Dr. Sandeep Kunwar. I think he is a "Miracle worker".
